Folksy Meets Fiesty: Debriefing the VP Debate

Published by Monica at 2:43 pm under In the News, Twing Users

Ah, the day after (last night’s vice presidential debate, that is). Let’s liken it to the day after a night of speed-dating. You had a limited time with multiple candidates…and you weren’t left with a lot to go on when deciding which one you might want to get in bed with at some point in the near future. But you have to choose, right? So what’s a person to do?

You’d start by running through the standard, superficial checklist: Who looked better, sounded best, kept your attention, and didn’t bug the crap out of you? (What effect, for example, did speech containing “Joe six-pack,” “heck,” “darn,” and ”you betcha” have on you?)

Then after judging each book by its cover (hey, if covers weren’t meant to judge books then books wouldn’t have ‘em), you’d move on to whatever points of substance you had managed to extract. Once again, a strategy you can apply to the vice-presidential debates. The candidates talked (with varying levels of detail) about their positions on drilling to end dependence on foreign oil. They drew out different military strategies for Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. They talked about timetables for withdrawing our troops from the Middle East. They went to battle over taxes and the Wall Street bailout, and why they each felt their respective presidential running mates would be best for America.

Starting to form an opinion? We’ve no doubt. Still, a good decision isn’t always made quickly. So before you finalize who you want to date — or vote for, in the case of Joe Biden v. Sarah Palin – it helps to hear what others think about the candidates you’re considering. Twing can help by giving you fast access to the best conversations about the vice-presidential debates happening right now in online community.

I like the connection between speed dating and debates. Why? Because each put you in a position of having to make a choice based on little information in a short amount of time. “Heck” it’s not every “Joe six-pack” that can do that “I betcha”. Darn…I lost my train of thought. I know both are popularity contests but somehow I’m not feeling the vibe. Here’s a people orientated search, http://www.weegy.com/
